Volunteer opportunities

Volunteers have joined us because of their interest in fostering genuine, supportive relationships with community members confronting the challenges of poverty and mental illness.

Volunteer as a Community Companion!

Volunteer Companions support and empower others through forming genuine relationships that promote positive connections to the greater community. From meeting with participants one-on-one to hosting gatherings at the residential properties, volunteers offer the gifts of time and presence to residents. Learn more about companionship here!

Our next Companionship Training will be held early 2024. We are accepting applications, though we are not interviewing until winter 2023. Thank you!

Volunteer in the Community Garden!

We are very excited to be cultivating a community garden program at House of Healing and Eng House where we have 13 raised garden beds. These properties are located next door to each other in the Beacon Hill neighborhood and we are working to prepare them for the upcoming growing season.

This program will allow residents to grow, manage and harvest fresh produce in their own backyard and it offers a way for volunteers and residents to gather safely outside together and experience the power of watching something grow and then be able to eat it! We are very excited and grateful to be partnering with:

Our goal is to eventually have community meals centered around the produce grown and build a welcoming community for residents and volunteers alike. If you are interested in volunteering with the Community Garden, please complete the application below. Please note that during winter, our gardens are resting for the new season! Applications for volunteering will be accepted, but volunteer shifts will not begin until spring 2023.
